Lee Hom slams Aaron Kwok and Jay Chou

Known for his thriftiness, Lee Hom thinks buying sports cars is pointless, indirectly jabbing at car lovers like Aaron Kwok, Jay Chou and Show Luo

A strong believer in spending only when necessary, music prodigy Lee Hom didn't hold back when he said buying sports cars is meaningless and actions of the parvenu (or newly rich).

Isn't that directed at celebrity car lovers like Aaron Kwok, Jay Chou and Show Luo alike? It sure seems like it, though no names were mentioned when the 34-year-old singer made this statement during a Taiwanese TV interview.

In other related news, Lee Hom has had a good year, earning HKD 40 mil ($8 million) from his album sales and movie deals, putting him just below Jay Chou in the top earners' list.

Unlike his fellow peers, he is not one who hankers after material wants, drives a second hand car and has never bought new clothes in his 15 years as an artiste.

The benevolent star is also sponsoring 20 kids from the World Vision Organization, hoping to beat Dee Hsu's 30 sponsorships in time to come.

Selina Ren (member of S.H.E.) returns to Taiwan after suffering 3rd degree burns in China

A member of Taiwan's popular pop group S.H.E was flown back to Taiwan Sunday (8pm local time) after sustaining serious third degree burns in an accident while shooting a TV drama series "I Have A Date With Spring" in China at the weekend.

Television images showed 28 year old, Selina Ren returning to Taipei late in the day on a chartered flight from Shanghai.

"I wish I could endure the suffering for her, even at the cost of my life," her father -- known to fans simply as Father Jen -- told reporters shortly after his daughter was rushed to the Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital outside Taipei.

"May heaven have mercy on her."

He said that his daughter was in stable condition but that it might take her months to recover, declining to provide details of her burns.

The pop star suffered third-degree burns over up to 40 percent of her body, the Taipei-based United Daily News said.

The singer-actress is was under observation in an intensive care unit in Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai, after suffering severe burns to her hands, legs and back last Friday afternoon, reports said. Her face was unhurt, her company HIM records said.

Her condition is being monitored by doctors from Shanghai, Taiwan and healthcare company International SOS, reported United Daily News.

International SOS Taiwan general manager Keynes Chen told the newspaper that Jen suffered smoke inhalation, and that most of her burns were on her legs.

He said that in the early stages of her recovery, she should stay in Shanghai for the surgical removal of dead tissue from her skin, before her return to Taiwan.

The accident took place when explosives went off earlier than planned, the report said, adding that thousands of fans had added their names to a website saying they would pray for her.

Sammi's back and happier

AFTER a two-year break from showbiz, Hong Kong actress-singer Sammi Cheng has re-invented herself and is as popular as ever.

The diva has been regularly writing columns and doing illustrations for Hong Kong newspapers.

Early this year, the 38-year-old also released her memoirs, Worth It, which made Hong Kong's bestsellers' lists.

She said: "Columns are channels for me to vent my feelings. I've enjoyed writing since childhood because I think words exude indescribable power."

But Cheng admitted she is slow in putting her thoughts to words.

She said: "Writing columns usually requires much deep thought and I often give editors grief as I don't submit my drafts until the last minute."

Cheng said she does illustrations when words cannot describe her feelings.

She said: "When I'm depressed, drawing is very good therapy."

As if being a top Cantopop queen and best-selling author aren't enough, Cheng may release a cookbook soon.

She said: "I try to marry my work with my beliefs. I also have strange ideas. I may release a cookbook, but I am no chef.

"But I think people may be encouraged to try cooking if they read about my attempts to cook simple dishes. I hope to realise my dream next year."

But Cheng's culinary skills are almost non-existent - the paparazzi have caught her eating instant noodles for dinner.

She said: "I don't even have a clue as to how to turn on my stove. So if I were to release a cookbook, I must make an effort to learn cooking to encourage others in the same situation."

After all those years of keeping a low profile, Cheng's outlook on life has changed dramatically.

Now, the born-again Christian does not worry about success or failure, choosing instead to enjoy the process of doing things.

Cheng said: "I used to believe in fate. I used to think that good and bad luck would dominate a person's life. But after embracing Christianity again, my philosophy has changed. Now, I leave everything to God's will."

Her career has peaked with good results when it comes to record sales and box-office takings.

Her comeback Show Mi Tour has also been rewarding. But the same can't be said of her love life.

After all, Cheng hasn't had a serious relationship since she and Hong Kong actor-singer Andy Hui broke up in 2004 after a 13-year relationship.

She said: "Of course, I look forward to meeting the right person. But I'll leave it to God."

So what is Cheng's attitude towards love, family and marriage?

She said: "All three are important to me. Marriage is too important to a girl. If a marriage is unhappy, the unhappy spouse bears the burden alone.

"So I'm not bothered no matter what stories the media spins about my romances. As long as I listen to myself, that's what matters."

Kinship over romance

Cheng added that she values kinship more than romance.

In Worth It, Cheng wrote about the unwavering care her family showered on her while she battled depression, saying that their support helped her to recover.

She said that in the past, she did not know how to control her emotions. This made her bad-tempered and, thus, unpopular with the Hong Kong media.

Cheng said: "I've matured a lot after recovering from depression. I communicate better with my family now because I've mellowed a lot."

She now prefers to spend her free time with her parents than be out painting the town red.

She said: "I had moved out on my own some time ago, so I cherish the times when I can see my parents."

Michelle Reis to undergo C-section

The usually tightlipped Hong Kong actress unwittingly let slip the gender of her baby when she mentioned that her child would be able to wear clothes from a male cousin.

The "male cousin" in question is believed to be the newborn son of Michelle's sister, Li Jiaming, who gave birth in September this year. The five-months-pregnant mother-to-be quipped that they can share her sister's son "many clothes", subtly hinting at her baby's gender.

On further probing, she chuckled, "Infant clothes are usually androgynous in colours like yellow, blue, and white. As long as they don't wear pink, that's fine."
The Eurasian star openly expressed that she might opt to deliver via C-section instead. Commenting on her hubby's plans to accompany her, Michelle said, "I plan to use a digital video and camera to record the entire delivery process.

"I believe my husband would be panicking and flustered," she laughed.
The 40-year-old gained 12kg from this pregnancy and revealed that she is unable to look at her toes because of her huge tummy. Although she does not suffer from morning illnesses, there is a change in appetite and she does not take well to desserts and sweets, which she used to love.

Michelle added that she has stopped eating raw and cold food and has no plans to increase her health tonics intake.

Charlene Choi "resists love" as a plain Jane OL (Office Lady)

Filming Charlene Choi's <Making a Fuss> (煞有介事) MV from her recently released <Beauty Remains> Cantonese EP, wearing large glasses, personifying a dorky office lady, and using exagerrated movements and facial expressions to increase the comedic touch, Ah Sa was praised by the MV director as being the reflection of "Plain Jane" and being able to develop towards the direction of a Comedy Queen. The message of the song <Making a Fuss> (煞有介事) is that in this world, there are too many standards created by society regarding how people should be.

Rather than acting to fit into the standards of others, simply be who you naturally are. In the MV, all the beautiful female coworkers in the office are crazy about the male boss, but he is only denied by Ah Sa. Finally, Ah Sa is unable to bear with her boss' idiotic annoyances and gives him an earful before elegantly but unconventionally leaving with a runway walk!

Even though Ah Sa was to dress as a dorky office lady, she personally matched her outfit, modeling clothes of a conventional but fashionable office lady.

Although she had initially wanted to make a foolish and silly young girl look, who would have expected that staff members unexpectedly praised her as being adorable.

Never having worked an office job before, Ah Sa laughed and pointed out that it was extremely fun to portray this character.

However, she personally says she is restless and if she were to work in an office, she would definitely mess around and get others to play around.

The Hong Kong actress is mad about co-star stealing her lead role and getting double her pay in Lunar New Year flick

Cecilia Cheung's movie comeback is making one veteran actress really angry.

Not only has 30-year-old Cecilia swiped the first lead role which was initially meant for Carina Lau, she is also paid double of what the veteran actress is getting in the Lunar New Year flick, All's Well, Ends Well.

Carina is fuming over the fact that Cecilia is being paid HKD10million ($2million) for her comeback role, exactly double that of her HKD5million ($1million) in same movie.

The mother of two was also seen with Carina's assistant in New York film festival, which offended the latter since the assistant had obviously switched sides.

Moses said that he doesn't have Weibo or Facebook accounts, normally he'll just upload coffee related photos on Twitter because he has always been skeptical about the data circulated online. He said: "There are too many messages on the internet, it's better for someone to say it in person because comments on the internet can spread through the world, have to be extra careful. I have always been rational, if not said in person or if there is no evidence, I will not believe it. But the majority of HK people are about gossips, will only believe half." Moses has also received a phone call from an unknown person, but he had good ideas to make the person stop.
